UNDERWATER CONSTRUCTION USING COFFERDAMS
by Harold V. Anderoson
Underwater Construction Using Cofferdams"
includes:
The contents of Mr. Anderson's book will be of interest to those
who have a responsibility to design, construct and safely occupy a space under
water to allow certain work to be performed in the dry. This hard cover book is
intended as a reference for use by engineers and contractors and includes 34
full color photos and a multitude of diagrams. Students will find it
enlightening and educational. There is material in the book which is original
and cannot be found elsewhere. The examples of design provided in the book are
intended for use only as reference material. Readers are cautioned that there
are no cook-book methods for marine cofferdam design. Each and every cofferdam
should be considered as unique structures and designed using appropriate
criteria for the site and by using well- established engineering design
principles. Equipment and materials available to the contractor enter into all
equations as do governmental regulations and environmental concerns. The book
has been edited by William Hirvela who was a construction engineer and a project
manager for MK for many years. Bill has an extensive background in marine
construction. BridgePros Review 10 out of 10! After reading this book we fully understand why it has gotten so many glowing reviews. It presents the subject very well, and is probably the only book on the subject that has as much practical knowledge in it. One of the best chapters is on Failed Marine Cofferdams. As in many things you can learn more about how to be successful in understanding how others have failed and not to make the same mistakes. If you are involved in designing or building cofferdams (or a civil engineering student) this is the one book you must not be without.
