INDIA The Worli Bandra Sea Link project would
provide an additional link between the island and the suburbs of the city
and would help in reducing the congestion on Mahim Causeway and Mahim
Dadar area, which presently is a bottleneck. The 5.6 km bridge will
include a 600-meter cable-stayed segmental span supported by a single
tower. The bridge will take 30 months to construct and cost is estimated
at $120 million dollars.

update on the project direct from Executive Engineer Rajesh Gajjar.
He reports that the project name has been changed from Worli Bandra Sea
Link Project to Bandra Worli Sea Link Project. The contract for the
approaches have been awarded and progress is underway. Tender bids for the
main bridge and approach viaducts including toll plaza are being received
on October 12, 1999. Construction is slated to begin in December

Sverdrup-HNTB team has completed over 50% of the design of
a fast track job in India. The 5.6 km bridge will include a 600-meter
