Le Pont du Carroussel Bridge - data entry

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Construction of the new bridge, designed by the engineers MALET and LANG, began in July 1935 and was completed in July 1939.  The total length of the bridge is 168 meters, the width is 33m, containing a 21 m roadway.
The structure consists of three arches of reinforced concrete vaults, with lengths of 36 m, 42 m and 36 m spans.  Piers and arcs are covered with a quarried stone facing with the intent purpose of blending in with the Louvre.  On the bank on both sides of the bridge, four decorated pylons support a telescopic lighting system that is able to raise the lamps from a height of 13 m (day) to 20 m (night) - this mechanism currently is unserviceable. This system was designed by the ironworker Raymond Subes and installed in 1946.
