SR-5 US-1 Low level bridge replacement over the Tomoka River.
FIN: 240845-15201 WPI 5119225
State Proj. No.	79030-3502 Contract No.:	20,687
F.A.P. No.:	4857 025 P Progress: 603 days used of 604 days

As noted in the previous newsletter, a wall of steel piling has been placed along the edge of the road which will contain the muck and allow it to support the road. After installation, the steel wall is not visible since it has been driven into the soil. The addition of the wall has delayed the opening of the southbound roadway.

Progress is continuing on the bridge. The concrete parapet wall has been placed. Next, the barrier walls will be placed, and then the guardrails will be installed. The bridge deck will then be straightedged for rideability and grooves will be cut into the surface to enhance traction on the concrete, which can be slippery when finished smooth. More sod has been placed on the north end of the project, and all the drainage and underground work is complete. Roadway construction is continuing on the north end of the project. The roadway is nearly ready for asphalt operations to begin.

Most of the remaining work to be done includes handrails on the bridge, fencing, sod, concrete sidewalk, asphalt pavement, signs and striping.

Additional information will follow as the construction progresses. Should you have any questions, please contact me at (904)677-8740.

Sincerely,

Thomas R. White, PE
